Tia Julia's famous Baru nut butter
8 oz. (1 heaping cup) roasted baru nuts,
preferably with the shells removed.*
3 - 4 tablespoons coconut oil, peanut butter, or cashew butter (depending on how thick you want the nut butter to be.
Salt, to taste
*To remove the shells, put the nuts in an oven preheated to 350°F and roast for 5 minutes. Then put the nuts on a kitchen towel and roll them around roughly to loosen most of the skins. Pull off any remaining loosened skins.
Place the baru nuts in a high-powered blender or food processor. Blend on medium-high speed until the nuts have mostly broken down and started to form a butter, scraping down the sides of the machine as necessary.
Add the coconut oil, peanut butter, or cashew butter and blend to combine.
Add salt to taste. If you use salted peanut buter you likely won't need any.
Pour into a jar and store in a cool dry place. Enjoy!
